Fancy a six-foot diameter Globe?

The ultimate garden ornament is to go under the hammer in North Lincolnshire this week - the striking six-foot high stainless steel globe that’s graced the grounds of one of Scunthorpe’s most high-tech companies.

The globe . . . and everything else on the site . . . is to be auctioned off following the closure of TS & S Global Limited, a firm that manufactured specialist components for products ranging from medical equipment to mobile phones.

The factory closed down in November, following the ending of a number of important contracts, and the company formally ceased trading on March 31st.

Now industrial auctioneers CJM Asset management have been instructed to sell off all the furniture, fixtures, fittings and equipment in a public auction that will take place on the site on Thursday (April 12th).

CJM director Paul Cooper said: “The globe is a really striking thing, so it should certainly attract quite a lot of interest.”

“I suspect it would cost a small fortune to commission such a piece so if it goes for £200-£300, which is the pre-sale estimate, it could be a real bargain.”

“The less good news is that it’s sited in the middle of an ornamental pond  - and it is the buyers job to remove it.”

In all, the sale extends to over 600 lots ranging from furniture and computers to factory fittings and equipment.

Mr. Cooper said: “The factory and offices were built and fitted out in 2001. It is one of the most modern hi-tech sites that you’ll ever see. There’s quality everywhere and everything from the boardroom furniture to the kit on the factory floor has been really well looked after.”

“The office furniture is amongst the best that we have ever auctioned off, anywhere in the country. The boardroom is fitted out with designer-created burr walnut furniture. The boardroom table alone must have cost the thick end of £10,000.”

“Other executive offices are fitted out in burr walnut, mahogany, oak and birch of similar quality.”

“The auction also includes a substantial quantity of IT equipment including over 50 computer monitors of various sizes, 20 computer base units and over 20 printers, including a dozen Zebra label printers, one of which has never been used.”

He added: “As you would expect with a factory making electronic components, the factory floor is rather special and it included a turnstile entrance and an airport-style walkthrough metal detector to control admission and movement of components. We are selling those too.”

The most valuable individual items in the auction include a two-man access platform, less than a year old, that is expected to make £2,500 - £3,000, a forklift truck that has a pre-sale estimate of a thousand pounds and the sectional pebble dash concrete double garage that was used for the firm’s pool cars and which is also expected to sell for around a thousand pounds.

In all the auction at the TS & S Global site on Ridge Way off Kingsway, Scunthorpe extends to 620 lots. The viewing sessions are on Wednesday (11th April) Noon-6pm and on Thursday morning from 8.30am until the start of the sale at 10 am. Catalogues are available from CJM or can be downloaded free of charge from the firm’s website: www.cjmasset.com
