CJMs NOVEMBER 2010 AUCTION

A leading Lincolnshire community support organisation . . . Voluntary Action East Lindsey . . . will reach the end of the road next week when its assets go under the hammer at an auction in Scunthorpe.

Launched in 2006, the publicly funded charitable organisation provided services, support and training to voluntary and community groups throughout the area.

The doors of its headquarters in Lindum House on Queen Street in Spilsby were closed last month after the Board of Trustees took the decision to cease trading due to the difficult financial circumstances they were facing and put the company into liquidation.

The Board of Trustees have now ordered the sell-off of the organisation’s assets, which have been removed to the premises of industrial auctioneers CJM Asset Management in Scunthorpe where they are to be included in an auction next Tuesday (November 2nd).

Auctioneer Matthew Cooper said: “The closure of Voluntary Action East Lindsey indicates just how hard the times are – and are likely to remain. Over the past five years they have won the backing of public bodies ranging from the European Social Fund to local authorities and the lottery.”

“One aspect of the support that they provided for community groups and  voluntary organisations was a funding search service.”

Matthew added: “We have been sent all their office furniture and furnishings, as well as all their computers and IT equipment.”

“The hundred or so lots of furniture range from desks, chairs, reception furniture and meeting room tables, to bookcases, stationery cabinets and white boards. It is almost-new modern stuff in very good clean condition.”

“We are looking at thousands of pounds worth of furniture at retail prices but there is a lot of stuff flooding on to the market at the current time because of companies and organisations retrenching so used values are not very high.  At auction pieces will make just a fraction of their new value, despite the fact that they haven’t got a mark on them.”

“The IT equipment includes over a dozen high-spec desktop computers and half a dozen laptops. The computer specialist who wipes hard drives for us has said that they are very good machines in unusually good condition. Some of them still have protective film in place, so they really have been looked after.”

Tuesday’s auction will also see heavy vehicle parts and spares valued at close to £100,000 go under the hammer following the closure of Truck and Trailer Care Transport Services UK Ltd.

Based on an industrial estate at Tuxford near Newark, the firm specialised in servicing and repairing haulage vehicles. The firm went into liquidation four weeks ago.

Edward Denniss of CJM said: “The liquidators have instructed us to auction off the entire contents of the stores. The spares and parts are almost all brand new and range across Renault, Scania, DAF, Mann and Mercedes vehicles.”

“We’ve also been sent two Renault tractor units, including one with a sleeper cab, as well as part of their fleet of vans. Prices for the vehicles are expected to be in the £1,000 - £7,000 range.”

Meanwhile thousands of birthday cards are also to go under the hammer after a specialist Cheshire shop hit problems. The cards, along with quantities of party games and toys, stationery and Christmas stock, were seized by bailiffs in lieu of unpaid rent.

In all the auction extends to over 1,000 lots. The viewing sessions are on Friday (October 29th) 10am – 4pm Monday (November 1st) 1pm-7pm and on Tuesday morning from 8.30am until the start of the sale at 10 am. Catalogues are available from CJM or can be downloaded from the firm’s website: www.cjmasset.com free of charge.
